What if Grimwalkers can produce magic, just not on their own, and Hunter’s staff just powered his magic, but he produced the magic all on his own, which would explain why his staff looks different than Belos’s. So when he absorbed Flapjack’s life force, he gained the “Magic of Flapjack”. And say that Belos made a Grimwalker of a witch, they would be able to produce magic just like a Grimwalker of a human was, so I don’t think it matters what species the Grimwalker is of.

Well Palistrom wood is used for Keratin, a protein used in the fabrication of the hair, nails, and the epidermis (the skin’s outer layer) so I supposed if Belos tore all of his nails and skin off and cut his hair, it would work in the way you are describing.
